My research has helped me develop my project by coming to the realization of how important it is that there’s equal opportunities for everyone. Through my research I have found that sports are an outlet for many people. For people with disabilities it can serve a rehabilitation tool or just to stay active. Learning all that I have through this research and shaping what I already knew prior made me realize I wanted to bring awareness about people with physical disabilities who play sports. There’s many misconceptions about people with disabilities and I want to work to put those to an end. As there is a lot of work to be done, a huge break-through occurred this past summer when for the first time the 2016 Rio Paralympics received 70 hours of TV coverage on the games in the United States. "At times, disable people will experience some challenges when participating in adaptive sports. The lack of funding, available programs/sports, proximity and lack of knowledge of and experience working with people with disability could create challenging situations for people with disabilities (Sportandev, n.d.)." Making people aware that people with disabilities play sports can open so many doors that wouldn't normally be open because of the misconceptions that have been placed.
